"I Spy" Limited Edition
"I Spy"
Eastern Box Turtle
Limited Edition Giclée Print (20)
Signed and Numbered
©Beatrice Bork
As children, Box Turtles were one of those "exotic" animals that we could regularly find during our outdoor adventures in the summer. If you spend a little (hands-off) time with an animal, they reveal their own specific characteristics—which is something that I enjoy exploring in my work. "I Spy" is a bit of a nostalgic piece to me—reminding me of how they would raise their heads up when spotting some delectable fruit. The original painting was done in watercolor and gouache.

Crocodile painting, the early stages.
I'm working on a commission that was given to me last year, I have free range on what to do, which is great! I've been able to put thought, research and had some time to think about it and came up with doing this guy under water.
I began with "a gazillion" sketches and when I was happy with one, I worked on a more detailed rendering and brought it up to scale. (This piece is 40" wide). I taped my hot-press watercolor board to the wall in my studio and began the background and then transferred the drawing.
Once I had the drawing transferred I then began to lightly paint—negative areas first.
I then begin the long process of layering in the details. It will be a few weeks before the next post, but I'm already pleased with the progress.

Holidays at Artists' Gallery
Join all of the Artists' Gallery artists (which includes me) for an opening reception on Saturday December 6, 4 to 7pm. This is a great chance to meet with quite a few of our artists and see a gallery full of wonderful work! This exhibit runs through February 1, 2015—in Lambertville, NJ.
I will have a few new works on display including my new series of macaws. "Hi There" 1, 2, and 3. (pictured: "Hi There" #3 is a Military Macaw). These small paintings are part of a few new pieces that I've done exploring a more intimate/close range encounter.
Also displayed at Artists' Gallery this month are my original paintings: "Stalk Walk"-ring-necked pheasant, "Silent Flight"-barn owl, "Red Flyer"-cardinal, "Sun Song"-swamp sparrow, "Red-winged blackbird", "Lovie Dovie"-mourning doves, "Ah Go Ketch She Eye"-violaceous euphonias, "Twist"-white bearded manikin, and "Play Ball"-mixed breed (my dog, Buttons). As always, I will have a selection of my limited edition prints available. To see these and more work, please go to my website: www.BeatriceBork.artspan.com

With the holidays around the corner, it was time I updated my print gallery webpage with a few new pieces. The website has an option for a shopping card which makes ordering prints very simple. Locally, I have a selection of prints available at Artists' Gallery in Lambertville, NJ and now also at Picture Perfect in Flemington, NJ.
Looking ahead, we have an opening reception to celebrate the winter holidays coming up at Artists' Gallery on December 6, 4–7pm, everyone is invited! I should have a few new paintings ready for this show as well. The exhibit will be up December 4, 2014–February 1, 2015.
