NYC and Far Hills, NJ

October 14, NYC— Wednesday was an enjoyable day, New Hope Arts graciously organized a bus trip to the Whitney Museum that I was quite happy to join. What a great trip to see a museum with 40 or so artist colleagues! I enjoyed the Whitney's collection as well as the highlighted exhibit of Archibald Motley's work. I confess I did not know much about him, but there is nothing quite like a large body of work to get a great feel for an artist! I came away wanting to know more and was intrigued by his color, composition and subject.

October 15, FAR HIILS, NJ — What a fantastic day to teach a workshop outdoors in the beautiful setting of Leonard J. Buck Gardens! The group (including myself) was only 6 people, but we had a great time. The nature center supplied us with coffee and snacks  along with wonderful vistas.

I observed a couple of ruby-crownded kinglets, which only added to the great day—and possibly inspired a future painting.

Buck Gardens Workshop

A great time was had by all at the one-day watercolor workshop at Leonard J. Buck Gardens in Far Hills, NJ last Friday. I don't conduct many workshops, but this is one I have done annual for years and enjoy it every time. The setting is beautiful with wonderful weather and enthusiastic participants may have made this the best one yet. Same time, same place next year...

Thank you Patricia and Joanne and the gracious staff at Buck Gardens for working to pull this together every year! Also want to thank Patricia for the use of these wonderful images from the day.

October happenings...

It's been a busy month so far!

Points of Origin exhibit is up and running—we had a really nice time at the opening (Oct. 12), which had quite a few guests come through and I had some great conversations. The show is up until November 3rd, where we'll also be hosting a closing reception at 3-5pm, Artists' Gallery is located in the heart of Lambertville, NJ.

I also was invited once again to hold a workshop at Buck Gardens in Far Hills, NJ, on Oct. 17th, and as usual it was a pleasant experience. Thank you to the staff at Buck Gardens, and my enthusiastic art students—keep on painting!   While I was walking the grounds of this beautiful location — there is plenty to see and I may have an idea or two that might become paintings — I spotted this squirrel that I'd like to share — animals never cease to amaze and amuse!

And... Save the date for November 23rd, for an annual On the Porch show! This is a great, one day event, details to come.

Art in the Garden...

I taught an annual watercolor workshop at the Leonard J. Buck Gardens in Far Hills, NJ yesterday. As usual, it was a pleasant event! There were 12 people signed up for the class at all levels of experience. We started the workshop with some introductions and a small demo, then proceeded to the Garden to paint and capped it off with a critique. Buck Gardens is a beautiful place, everyone seemed to have a great time.

Thank you to the staff at Buck Gardens, especially Patricia and Joanne, for continuing to make this such an enjoyable event. I really look forward to the next workshop! (Sept. 1, 2011).
